I just discover the topic !

We MUST correct this :

Foreigners ( not french mother tongue ) : this does not make sense in English . ( Autrefois on aurait dit : c'est du petit nègre - maintenant que nous sommes devenus politiquement corrects nous dirions : c'est du créole !)

I suggest you change the title to :

If you are not a French-speaking visitor : ( do not speak about Foreigners, it is not that pleasant to be held for a foreigner)

Next :

All around questions about First 30 and familly.... becomes ...

Miscellaneous questions about the 'First 30' and boats of the same family

In the first message better say :

Welcome on board TO all of you !

.... and as soon as everything is corrected .... DELETE MY MESSAGE AT ONCE 8)

Friendly

Merci Jean Pierre Cela va mieux accueillir nos foreigners (pardon les not french speaking  ) et leur donnera, espérons le plus d'entrain à participer.

Je corrige cela dès que possible ( Heu... As Soon As Possible )

Please accept my observations. First, the effort is most appreciated. Second, no offence was given nor taken by the use of the term foreigner, I simply understood it as meaning located outside of France. Third, All have been most welcoming. Indeed the First30 family extends across all borders and seas. Also ,given the significant influence of the French language on the English language may I suggest that the French language is perhaps a "grand mother tongue" for those whose initial laguage is English. Bottom line, the efforts that have been made by all to make our association so friendly and useful are most appreciated.

Hello Mike, well said.

First could you tell us a little more about the fore sail you use on the photograph of Sea Dragon ?

Jeanne -Pierre:

The picture was of an old sail which I "inherited" with the boat when I bought her. I think it was an old "drifter" which was remanufactured into a roller furler ( enrouler). Colorful but unfortunately it did not "sail" as well as it looked. It did not "point" very well . I now use a 135% head sail manufacutred by Doyle. Now the responsibility for less than good sailing is mine alone. I can no longer blame the condition of the sails. If someone would be kind enough to tell me how I will send a newer photo with the better sails.

Regards,

Mike Friedman

Hello Mike,

I thought it was some kind of cute gennaker but I see it was only a 'drifter'. I had heard about that kind of sail in the past. I wondered how one could expect to bear correctly to windward with a sail that was downright designed to make you drift !! Now let's stop joking. I have posted a new message for all those who want to post photographs . It is very easy ; it is here :

viewtopic.php?t=553

And thank you to Philippe who programmed the procedure.

I've just had my First 30E in the water for 3 months now - up until now i've sailed German (slovakian?), British and Swedish made boats and the First is by far the best!!! I'm lovin' it!!!!!

Message par Alex Bisset »

Apologies guys, I've not been here for a while.

Wonder if anyone else has had issues with High Moisture Readings in the Hull? I had the hull professionally checked over during the winter lay up, and, although there was lots of moisture, and lots of 'pinholes' in the gelcoat from the manufacturing process there was no sign of any osmosis. Coat of epoxy and 3 of International Antifouls should hopefully do it.

My Isomat rig (the original?) decided to snap above the Spreaders and had to be cut free earlier this summer and now lie in 60m of water, with newish sails, rigging etc., in Loch Fyne :e) . I'm very glad to say, my Insurance company is settling most of the costs.

I am getting a new rig, Z-Spars, and sails from Owen Sails - a full batten at the top of the main, and a lower cut, 140% roller reefing Genoa.

Consequently not much sailing this season - rectified soon I hope!.

for those who'd like to know, here's a link to the meaning of the name of the boat - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dionysus ( the Greek God of the Mentally Disturbed and those who are under the influence of Toxic Substances!!!)

Regards to you all out there in First 30 World.
